Sure, you'll have success if you've made a particular recipe a few times before, but at some point you'll want to branch out and create recipes of your own. Learning a few cooking techniques and understanding basic cooking methods will help you become more creative and confident. Once you understand some of the cooking basics it'll change the way you think about cooking. Of course it takes time to learn and pick up a 'knack' for cooking, but once you've learned these skills it then comes down to experience. The more you cook, the better you'll get.
